“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.
1 Peter 5:5-6
In society, most despise humility because it appears as weakness, inadequacy, a lack of self-respect, unworthiness or inability to defend one’s self or position. However, true humility is the exact opposite requiring courage, patience, and faith in the knowledge that God is both Creator and Redeemer and our existence depends upon Him. The Bible says that Jesus, though He was God in the flesh, did not consider equality with God, instead gave up divine privileges and took on the humble position of a servant…He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross (Phil. 2:6-8). Christians too are called to deliberately subject themselves to God’s sovereign rule which often makes us vulnerable to attacks from the outside world. Nevertheless, those who humble themselves under the authority of Almighty God can be assured that in times of bewilderment He will teach and guide the right way (Ps. 5:9). To the humble who are crushed and bent over in despair under the weight of cares, troubles, and calamities, He comforts, with His mighty hand of power lifts from feelings of distress, raises up their head and restores hope in His divine providence (Ps. 146:8, 147:6; Isa. 57:15). God gives grace (unearned, unmerited kindness & favor), then more grace, more wisdom, more faith, and more strength to those who will humbly embrace and accept His set time and season for elevation. He knows when the time is right for you to receive your assigned favor and blessings. Ask Him to help you submit to His way of handling and guiding your life. Then, while you wait for the demonstration of His gracious kindness, be grateful, be content and humbly serve others.
